Club Spotlight: Carpi FC 1909

5 seasons ago Carpi FC was playing in the fourth tier of Italian football known as the Serie D. The regionalized competition fields 162 teams throughout various regions in Italy, with the division winners competing in a promotional playoff series.

Known as the I Biancorossi (white and reds) Carpi FC 1909 compete in the Stadio Sandro Cabassi with a seating capacity of 4144. Today the club based out of the northern province of Modena has achieved a feat that few could have imagined; promotion into the Serie A, the Italian top division. The sold out 0-0 home draw versus Bari was enough to secure the Serie B title.

The Historic Rise of Carpi FC

The magical run began after the 2009-10 season in which the club managed to promote into the Lega Pro, the third tier of the Italian Football Pyramid formerly known as the Serie C. It would be another 3 seasons in lower tier football before the club would promote again at the conclusion of the 2012-13 season. Carpi FC would finish mid table during its first campaign in the second tier Serie B, narrowly missing the promotional playoff position by 3 points. Heading into its final four match fixtures of competition during the 2014-15 season, Carpi FC have clinched the Serie B title and promotion into the Italian top division.

The feet is magical in its own regard, as the small community based club has in half a decade achieved promotion after promotion. Time will tell whether or not the club manages to survive its first season in the Serie A. In the meantime the sportswriters and club enthusiasts can marvel at the herculean task a small northern provincial club has attained in such as short amount of time.
