Indian football player Abhiram Akundi in Youth IFX Program Spain

Abhiram: I love the Spanish football because of the style they play with short passes and maintaining possession for long parts of the game. The game here is more technical than physical and a perfect place to improve my game. There are also world class clubs over here such as Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. I am currently playing for Garrapinillos CD, a club in Juvenil A (the second division of youth soccer). I play as a winger and a striker. The club has good training facilities with players with good skill and top quality coaches. The league itself is also very competitive. These serve as the perfect environment for my development as a soccer player.

IFX Soccer: How was your approach to game of soccer? And which was your last soccer experience back home?

Abhiram: I always loved soccer and want to become a top professional football player. I do work hard for my dreams and can even put a lot more into it. I just like spending my time with a ball under my feet.
Back in India, there are not many opportunities and lack of professionalism. I used to play in a second division club of my district named FC Beckdinho. But they were hardly any matches and I didn't get much experience. Most of the training back then was on my own and I used to play a lot of fútsal matches every week which helped me develop my skill as well as my game sense.

IFX Soccer: What have been the most memorable event which has happened to you in Spain so far?

Abhiram: The most memorable moment that has happened to me till now was the day the coach said I was selected in their team and I will be signing a contract with them the next week. I was excited as it was a trial for the team and it is a good team here.

IFX Soccer: How difficult was to leave back home and still remain focused on your game?

Abhiram: It was a bit difficult for me to leave all my family and friends to come here in Spain for football. I felt a little depressed in the starting days, but then my family was always there to support me whenever I called to them and I would also remind myself what I had come here for. I am lucky because IFX have given me a very good host family. In the beginning, they used to always try to talk to me and take me out to the market, for shopping, for bowling, to their relatives and every other stuff they could do to help me to not feel homesick. It has greatly helped me adapt to here with much ease. They always help me if I need something and give me all I need.

IFX Soccer: What would you say is the role of IFX in this new step on your soccer career?

Abhiram: IFX has helped me by making all arrangements here in Spain for me so that it would be much easier for me. It is the organization which has helped me to get to Spain... I can surely tell that IFX is a good organization which does all it says and is a genuine one too.
