From the Regionalliga Bayern & Champions League to the Premier League

The last time we checked in on Emre Can (season 2012-2013) he was a regular on the Bayern München Reserve squad playing in the Regionalliga Bayern; the 4th tier in the German league system behind the full time professional 3.Liga.

Emre caught our eyes during the Regionalliga Bayern match against VfL Frohnlach, where then IFX player Zachary Mahon was playing. Champions League Winner, DFB Pokal and League Winner at Bayern München, Can is now eying a full national team call up.

Fast forward two seasons and Can has seen his market value increase 8x the value back when he starred at Bayern München Amateur. He was subsequently sold to Bayern Leverkusen for 5 Million € the following season; where he would go on to make 29 Bundesliga appearances ( 3 goals and 3 assists in 2190 minutes played). 10 Cup appearances (7 Champions League, 3 DFB Pokal).

The swift and fluid passer was one of the hottest commodities that summer, ultimately catching the eyes of Brendan Rodgers, who had recently lead Liverpool FC to a runner up finish in the Premier League (2 points behind Manchester City). Now Liverpool FC and Emre have high hopes that he has caught the eyes of the German Federation. The versatile midfielder is on the cusp of earning a full call up to Die Mannschaft, fresh off their World Cup Win. If the past is any indicator of whats to come, German fans can be hopeful that Emre will be a part of it.
