Arsenal Soccer Schools: Soccer Academy in England
Arsenal Soccer Schools is a residential soccer camp for boys ages 10-16 and girls ages 10 -15, which takes place at a top location in Southern England. Designed by an Arsenal Soccer Schools Head Coach, the soccer camp aims to promote confidence and experience in a variety of different game situations. It is also aimed at improving individual skills, knowledge of the game, as well as experience in team bonding and pre-season training regimes.
Players are coached in passing, dribbling, turning and speed and these skills are put into practice through competitive play. At the start of the week, students are grouped into training groups based on age and ability. They will be given a coach each to get a sense of how real teams work, and will have the same coaches all week to build up a rapport.
The Arsenal Soccer Schools program is operated in association with Exsportise.
SOCCER TRAINING PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Arsenal Soccer Schools residential programs are run at Clayesmore School in the United Kingdom. The venue offers a safe and secure environment with accommodation, meals, and evening activities. The soccer academy runs from Sunday afternoon through to Saturday morning and includes six nights full board accommodation.
Players may choose to do two consecutive weeks or longer if preferred.
The daily program consists of 6 hours of structured activities, teaching players to ‘Play the Arsenal Way’. There is an average coaching to player ratio of 1:10. Depending upon an individual’s level of English and language goals, students can choose from the following options:
Arsenal Soccer Schools + English: 3 hours of soccer coaching and 3 hours of English tuition each weekday.
Arsenal Soccer Schools Academy: 6 hours of soccer coaching per weekday.
Due to the physical intensity and demands of the Academy program, we recommend it only for students 12 years and older.
All of the Arsenal Soccer Schools coaching and activities are conducted in English and given the multinational environment, most students will be primarily communicating in English. This enables students to have a total immersion experience, maximizing an individual’s ability to practice and gain confidence, which is the key to success in any language. Students are also offered a variety of evening entertainment and cultural experiences through weekend excursions.
Staff – The programs are overseen by Arsenal Soccer Schools Head Coaches and a team of accomplished assistant coaches. All other staff are very experienced enthusiastic individuals who return to camp year after year.
Our staff to student ratio on campus is 1:5 and all are residents are on site.
All staff are police checked and have completed Child Protection Training.
The venue has 2 full-time on-site Medical Officers plus many trained First Aiders and the venue is within easy access of hospitals and other medical professionals.
Nationality Mix – We welcome students from around the world although we limit the number of students from any one country to ensure that the courses are multi-national, including native English speaking children as well.
Accommodation & Food – Boys and girls have separate sleeping accommodations with House Parents in charge of each boarding house. Most accommodation is shared with a very limited number of single rooms available. Three nutritious buffet style meals are served each day as well as packed lunches for excursions on Saturdays and Sundays. Special diets can be catered for by prior arrangement.
The English program is managed by the Director of Studies who have tailored it to the exact needs of the Arsenal Soccer Schools players. All coaching and instruction is in English so the course specifically focuses on providing students with the tools they will need to get the most out of their camp experience.
Those who choose the Academy program will not receive English course instruction but will be encouraged to use and improve their English through their daily activities.
Students electing the English courses will have 15 hours of English classes per week. All lessons are interactive, with significant focus on speaking and listening skills as well as grammar, pronunciation, study skills, reading and writing.
The study program includes:
- General language skills
- Everyday Arsenal Soccer Schools English – giving students the language tools they need for their daily training sessions
- Presentation skills to increase students’ confidence and fluency in English
- Weekly project work – focusing on aspects of English and British culture, local history and the environment
- Weekly assessment and end of course certificate and report
Students must have at least one year of English experience before enrolling in the course.
Throughout the week there are periods of time where students will have the opportunity to relax and enjoy their environment and surroundings.
The venue has a swimming pool, tennis courts, soccer and rugby pitches, theatre and a sports hall. The soccer camp offers players supervised internet access.
A special program of evening activities is available to Arsenal Soccer School students. This includes playing in matches and tournaments against local sides, as well as watching matches and analyzing them with coaches. Non-football related evening entertainment is also available, enabling participants to join in with those participating in other programs besides football.
Students who enroll in the program for more than one week go on two one-day excursions each weekend supervised by the staff. The focus is on relaxation and fun after a long week of training. One of these excursions is the home of Arsenal Football Club – The Emirates Stadium and the other is a visit to a themE park or other attraction or nearby city of historical/cultural significance.
Arsenal was founded in 1886 in Woolwich and in 1893 became the first club from the south of England to join the Football League. In 1913, it moved north across the city to Arsenal Stadium in Highbury. In the 1930s the club won five League Championship titles and two FA Cups. After a lean period in the post-war years it won the League and FA Cup Double, in the 1970-71 season and in the 1990s and first decade of the 21st century won two more Doubles and reached the 2006 UEFA Champions League Final. Arsenal has a long-standing rivalry with North London neighbors Tottenham Hotspur, with whom it contests the North London derby.
