DFB-Pokal 2nd Round Recap (Bavarian Club Update) Tuesday, October 27th 2015

It was a pleasant outing for all of the Bavarian clubs in action during the 2nd round of DFB-Pokal cup fixtures. Highlights of last night’s actions include the defending cup champion, Wolfsburg, being knocked out at the hands of reigning Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich. In Nürnberg, 1.FC Nürnberg dealt an impressive 5-1 victory to fellow 2.Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf. The most surprising result of the evening was SpVgg Unterhaching, a club competing in the 4th division, edging past 2.Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

Although 1860 Munich have yet to find their first victory in 2.Bundesliga league play, the 2 tier club have now knocked off two top flight sides in this years edition of the DFB-Pokal (Hoffenheim and Mainz 05).

  • Midfielder Alexander Piller (formerly of FSV Erlangen-Bruck and SpVgg Greuther Fürth Reserves) got the start and played 64 minutes.

The result of the evening was in the southeastern outskirts of Munich, as SpVgg Unterhaching, a fourth tier club competing in the Regionalliga Bayern, shocked the ambitious 2.Bundesliga side RB Leipzig 3-0 at home.
