Alejandro Abasolo Rodriguez, a native Pueblan and former player for Puebla FC, set out for Germany this August to embark on a one year adventure in northern Germany to play soccer and study abroad. Abasolo, 16, has been a student of the German language for 9 years and has quickly adapted to the German language and culture. After a short trial period, Abasolo was selected to play with top Wolfsburg club SV Reislingen-Neuhaus for their U17 A team.

Abasolo was eligible to play his first match against 2nd Bundesliga club Eintracht Braunschweig’s U17 B team in early October, when they routed Braunschweig 5-1. As one of the younger players, Abasolo will have his work cut out to earn a starting spot on this very tough German side. His integration into the team thus far has been seamless, bringing some Mexican creativity to the German squad. Head Trainer Jörg Robe’s U17 side includes many talented players from the Wolfsburg area, including Pierre Litbarski’s son. Litbarski was an integral member of the 1990 German World Cup Championship team.
